Special Olympics 2016

THE STEPPING STONE is continually interacting with our youth to teach respect, build self-esteem and teach defenses against bullying.  Our tutorial and mentoring activities help build confidence and improve academic skills.  Problem-solving skills are improved when we give our youth opportunities to figure out the solution or when they have input in the process.  Together and individually the youth take action to assist others, especially senior citizens or disabled persons in the community. The times when we make mechanical repairs on bicycles, small engines or other items, or when youth assist on constructions projects, opportunities are provided for each to grow in ways not yet known. Opportunities to learn and practice business skills build foundations needed to function effectively in our capitalistic society.  Learning to be trustworthy and responsible are necessary characterizes that lead to success.

In general activities, we continue to coordinate opportunities for volunteers to be able to assist others.  From running errands to performing yard work or participating in community cleanup, help is generally available.  On a regular basis we run errands, provide support by accompanying individuals to medical (or other) appointments and assist with filling out forms or troubleshooting in disputes.  At times we pickup prescriptions or read instructions on medical and other forms for clarification purposes.  We visit, join in a stroll, listen to concerns or otherwise help others accomplish tasks of their choice.  We conscientiously make wellness checks.  Whether at one’s residence or a facility, a card, cake, gift or personal time spent, divert depression and loneliness and open the door to sunshine and hope.

We actively support projects of other civic groups.  We are all in this together.

THE STEPPING STONE, coalition of dedicated citizens, is at your service.
